Choosing the Perfect Match

About eight years ago, my mom and I wanted to get a kitty because we both love cats very much and wanted a cat to add to our family.  We went to a local animal rescue shelter by our home and browsed all of the kitties that they had.  There were a lot to choose from because at that time it was right before Christmas and the shelter picked up a lot of cats from the cold weather.  We browsed and browsed and wanted to be sure that we would pick the right one.  Picking a cat is not just some easy task, it takes time and there has to be a feeling there that you know you are making the right choice.

As we were looking and petting all of the kittens that were there to choose from, I finally saw a kitten that caught my attention.  It was funny though, because she was in the back of her cage sitting in her litter box.  Somehow she caught my eye and I immediately wanted to take her into the play room they had.  Her coloring was very unique, she was somewhat calico and tiger mixed together and had beautiful fur.  Her name was Gem and we took her into the play room where she was quite shy but I just had a feeling that she would be perfect for our family.  My mom and I decided to adopt her and take her home.

When we got home, Gem decided to hide under my bed and would not come out for a few days.  I started to worry that she would never socialize with the family.  After the few days though, Gem finally came out and she has been a loving and playful cat ever since.  We spoil her very much and she is pretty much the queen of the house.  I love her very much and I do not know what I would do without her, now that I am at school I miss her and look forward to going home and seeing her.  I do not think she will be a cat that I will ever forget, she has a special place in all of my family member's hearts and mine.
